Schedule-at-a-Glance
7:00 am – 8:00 am
Continental Breakfast & Registration
8:00 am – 8:50 am
Linear (Multi-turn) Valves
This session explores linear valve types—including gate and globe valves—along with their stems and bonnets. Attendees will also gain an in-depth understanding of linear valve applications and where these valve designs are best utilized.
8:50 am – 9:40 am
Check Valves
This session explores the unique characteristics of check valves, how they function, and why proper sizing is critical to their performance. Attendees will gain guidance on when and where to use check valves, along with practical insight into sizing requirements and several real-world check-valve applications to help ensure successful implementation.
9:40 am – 10:00 am
Networking Break
10:00 am – 10:50 am
Quarter Turn: Butterfly
This portion of the quarter-turn valve presentation covers three different butterfly valve designs. Like plug and ball valves, these are very simple to operate. Over the years they have become more and more popular for services no one would have thought possible less than 30 years ago. We will discuss advantages and disadvantages.
10:50 am – 11:40 am
Solenoids
This session defines and explains solenoid valves while providing practical guidelines for selecting the right valve for your application. Topics include solenoid coil function, operation of 2-way, 3-way, and 4-way solenoid valves, and a range of fluid control and fluid power applications—from general-purpose use to critical safety requirements—helping attendees understand available options and when to use each one.
11:40 am – 12:30 pm
Networking Lunch
12:30 pm – 1:20 pm
Electric Actuators
This session focuses on rotary and quarter-turn electric actuators, covering their fundamental designs, common options, and typical applications. The presentation examines electric actuators from the valve stem to the electrical connection, including mounting considerations and the use of quarter-turn and multi-turn gearboxes in electric actuation systems.
1:20 pm – 2:10 pm
Control Valves & Systems
This presentation defines control valves, explains what they do and describes typical control valve styles, including variations, types and applications. The discussion will also include valve sizing and selection, cavitation and flashing, and a brief overview of single loop controllers, control systems and pertinent safety standards.
2:10 pm – 2:30 pm
Networking Break
2:30 pm – 3:50 pm
Valve Petting Zoo
This interactive “Valve Petting Zoo” gives attendees hands-on access to the full range of valve types discussed throughout the day. Participants can examine, handle, and compare valves up close while engaging with experts to better understand valve construction, operation, applications, and selection considerations. This session reinforces key concepts from previous presentations and provides a practical, tactile learning experience.
4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Valve Forum: Opening General Session
All Valve Basics attendees are invited to stay for the opening general session for the Valve Forum: Conference & Exhibits, followed by the Welcome Networking Reception with exhibitors.
5:00 pm – 6:30 pm
Valve Forum: Welcome Networking Reception with Exhibitors
Maximize your day by growing your professional and business connections as you explore the Valve Forum exhibit hall alongside a diverse mix of industry representatives and attendees.
